UAB-Kentucky Slugfest

UAB (4-2) leads the series 4-0, with the most recent meeting a nine-inning thriller on May 1 at Tom Loy. UAB went down early 4-0 before clawing its way back for a 5-4 win.

Trevor Bauer struck out 12 for Kent State (2-3), and threw a career-high 135 pitches in the no-hit win. He was nearly perfect until the seventh inning.

“I just needed to locate a little bit better, and I did that when I got into the seventh and eighth,” Bauer said. “I just tried to throw strikes.”

The Dores and Bobcats traded runs, with UAB scoring three in the top of the fifth and Kentucky adding three in the sixth.

Kentucky came up short in a 5-2 final.

Kent State will play Weber State in the other quarterfinal.

Belmont-Allen

Belmont (3-2) and Allen (4-1) have split four meetings, with the Bruins winning the most recent matchup 5-2 on August 12 at Belmont Ballpark.

Both teams entered the contest with high ambitions.

“We had the winning series last weekend,” Allen coach Everett Stone said. “(It’s) been a long time since we’ve had something to play for.”
